For all PEG polymers, THF stock solutions of alpha-cyano 4-hydroxycinnamic acid (20 mg mL−1) and sodium trifluoroacetate as the counterion (1 mg mL−1) were used. The polymer sample was prepared at a 2 mg mL−1 concentration in THF. MALDI samples were prepared by combining 20 μL of polymer solution, 0.5 μL of counterion solution, and 10 μL of matrix solution. For all PSt polymers, THF stock solutions of dithranol (20 mg mL−1) and silver trifluoroacetate as the counterion (1 mg mL−1) were used. The polymer sample was prepared at a 2 mg mL−1 concentration in THF. MALDI samples were prepared by combining 20 μL of polymer solution, 0.5 μL of counterion solution, and 10 μL of matrix solution. |

| Class ID: | 3.24 |
| Class Name: | polyether |
| Polymer: | poly(ethylene glycol) |
| Matrices: | dihydroxybenzoic acid (27138-57-4) various Tinuvin's |
| Salt: | AgTFA |
| Solvent: | water, tetrahydrofuran |
| Recipe | PEG was dissolved in distilled water to make 10 mM solution. The middle value 4600 of the Mn range (4400–4800) was used as its molecular weight for the preparation of 10 mM solution. Each matrix was dissolved in THF to make 10 mM solution. AgTFA was also dissolved in THF to make 10 mM solution. For the single matrix system, the PEG, UV absorber (or DHB), and AgTFA solutions were mixed by the volume ratios of 1:10:1, and 1.0 μL of the mixing solution was spotted on the sample plate and dried in the air. For the co-matrix system, the PS, UV absorber (or DHB), Tinuvin 770, and AgTFA solutions were mixed by the volume ratios of 1:5:5:1, and 1.0 μL of the mixing solution was spotted on the sample plate and dried in the air. |

| Class ID: | 3.24 |
| Class Name: | polyether |
| Polymer: | poly(ethylene glycol) |
| Matrix: | 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid (490-79-9) |
| Salt: | CsCl |
| Solvent: | solvent-free |
| Recipe | The three solid components were mixed in a 10 mL poly(propylene) tube containing six stainless steel balls (3 mm diameter). Typical amounts of materials were 51 mg of 2,5-DHB, 10 mg of PEG, and 11 mg of CsCl, to reach a matrix–analyte–salt molar ratio of 50:1:10. The capped tube was held on a vortex mixer and the contents of the tube were mixed at a 2400 min−1 frequency for a variable amount of time. After mixing, a few grains of the ground sample were applied to the MALDI target with a spatula to form a thin layer. |
