| Class ID: | 3.23 |
| Class Name: | polyester |
| Polymer: | poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) |
| Matrix: | dihydroxybenzoic acid (DHB) (27138-57-4) |
| Salt: | N/A |
| Solvent: | chloroform/acetone/TFA (analyte), methanol (matrix) |
| Recipe | About 0.1 g of the PET sample was dissolved in 1 mL of TFA. The solution was diluted with 8 mL of chloroform plus 2 mL of acetone with continuous stirring. The PET solution was separated from the precipitated polymer by vacuum filtration. The solution with the extracted oligomers was spotted (1 μL) directly onto a MALDI plate and dried. A freshly prepared matrix solution of DHB (154 g L−1) in methanol was then added to the spots. |

| Class ID: | 3.23 |
| Class Name: | polyester |
| Polymer: | poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) |
| Matrices: | 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid (DHB) (490-79-9) trans-3-Indoleacrylic acid (IAA) (29953-71-7) |
| Salt: | N/A |
| Solvent: | hexafluoro-isopropanol (HFIP) |
| Recipe | About 2-mg samples were dissolved in 1 ml of hexafluoro-isopropanol (HFP), and 2,5-diidroxybenzoic acid (DHB) or indolacrylic acid (IAA) (0.5 M in HFP as solvent) were used as matrix. Appropriate volumes of polymer solution and matrix solution were mixed in order to obtain a 1:1, 1:2 and 1:3 v/v ratio. One microlitre of each sample/matrix mixture was spotted on the MALDI sample holder and slowly dried to allow matrix crystallisation. The best mass spectra, reported in the present work, were obtained by using IAA as matrix and an analyte/matrix ratio of 1:3 in volume |
